After high school, Javier made it his mission to play for a big league team. In 1997 he finally achieved his goal when he suited up as catcher for the Minnesota Twins.
Unfortunately his happiness would be short-lived, as his astounding talents proved too much for his teammates to handle. After a few seasons he was traded to the Devil Rays. Again, as in Minnesota, his Tampa Bay teammates eventually became jealous of his abilities and Javier found himself without a team at the end of the 2003 season.
